Employment Report Shows Steady Job Growth Across Maryland Regions

Maryland's latest monthly labor market report showed steady job growth across most regions of the state, with the largest gains concentrated in healthcare, logistics, and professional services sectors, according to figures released by the state labor department this week.

The statewide unemployment rate held roughly steady compared to the previous month, remaining below the national average. Regional data showed the Baltimore metro area and Southern Maryland posting the strongest month-over-month job gains, while more rural western counties saw more modest growth.

"Healthcare continues to be one of the most consistent sources of new jobs in this state," a labor department economist said in releasing the figures. Logistics sector growth was tied in part to continued expansion in warehousing capacity near the Port of Baltimore and along major interstate corridors.

Business groups welcomed the report but noted that labor force participation remains a persistent challenge in several sectors, with employers in hospitality and skilled trades continuing to report difficulty filling open positions despite competitive wage increases over the past year.
