Montgomery County Schools Announce Expanded Career Training Programs

Montgomery County Public Schools announced an expansion of its career and technical education offerings this week, adding new partnerships with regional employers in healthcare, information technology, and skilled trades. The expansion will roll out across several high schools beginning with the coming academic year.

District officials said the program was designed in direct response to feedback from local employers who have reported difficulty finding entry-level talent in fields ranging from HVAC repair to medical assisting. Students who complete the tracks will graduate with industry-recognized certifications alongside their diplomas.

"We want students to leave high school with real options, whether that's a four-year degree, a trade certification, or both," said a district spokesperson. The program will also include paid apprenticeship placements for eligible juniors and seniors, a feature officials say sets it apart from earlier vocational offerings.

Parent and student response at recent information sessions has been strong, with several tracks already reporting waitlists. The district says it plans to evaluate demand after the first year and consider expanding capacity or adding additional career pathways, including advanced manufacturing and cybersecurity, in future years.
