Ravens Open Training Camp with High Expectations for Upcoming Season
Baltimore's roster additions this offseason have fans and analysts optimistic heading into training camp.
The Baltimore Ravens opened training camp this week with what coaches and players described as a renewed sense of optimism following an active offseason that added depth at several key positions.
Coaching staff emphasized competition at multiple roster spots during the first week of padded practices, with several position battles expected to remain open through the preseason. Veteran leadership on both sides of the ball has drawn particular praise from coaches for setting the tone early in camp.
"The energy in this building right now is different. Guys are pushing each other every single day," one team captain told reporters after an early camp practice. Fans have turned out in strong numbers for open practice sessions, continuing the team's tradition of strong local training camp attendance.
Analysts covering the team say the offensive line and secondary will be among the most closely watched position groups throughout camp, given both units' importance to the team's overall performance ambitions this season. With the preseason schedule set to begin in the coming weeks, coaches say the focus remains on building fundamentals before game-planning begins in earnest.
